Carbon offsets
We offset the climate impact
associated with a part of attendants' travelling to EcoDesign 2019 and
catering (foods and drinks) during EcoDesign 2019.
Personal travels to our symposium likely represent
the largest contribution to the carbon footprint of the symposium. The
average round-trip international flight to EcoDesign 2019 symposium (at
this occasion we counted only "international" flights) was calculated as
about 13,000 km and to produce roughly 820 kg CO2-eq of GHG per
passenger. The GHG emissions from international travel of attendants
were calculated as about 80.6 ton CO2-eq.
For catering, GHG emissions associated with the meals (for lunch for
3 days, for reception on the first day, and for banquet on the second
day) and coffee breaks were calculated. The amount was calculated as
about 5.0 ton CO2-eq of GHG. Thanks to the efforts of the staffs in
charge and for kind cooperation and understanding of symposium
attendants, we had very little amount o food wastes during the symposium.
We offset 86 ton CO2-eq of GHG. For offsetting, we partnered with
TCO2 Co., Ltd.
The calculation of the carbon footprint
and the certificate of the offset are available at the following page:
